Completion of the Yurt

So after months of work on 9 yurts it seems we are done. However as everyone has asked me how try go together, I have put together this short series of steps for you to use as a guide.

Step 1: Find your spot and layout your walls, extending them approximately the full length and push them onto roughly the shape of a circle. Tie the ends of the wall sections together securely.

Step 2: connect the door to the wall. The 4 bolts on each side will slide into the end points of the wall frame. The bolts are not structural and only need to be hand tightened. Then connect the cable ends to the door frame and lay the cable in the slot cut at the top of the wall sections.

Step 3: Insert 3 roof poles into the crown at 120 degrees to each other. Place 2 of the poles on the cable and lift the third up on the cable. No its not heavy and is stable once its in place.
Now add the rest of the roof poles to the crown evenly.

Step 4: Place "S" hooks on every other cable section. Then pull the canvas wall around the yurt frame and hook the grommet holes on to the hooks.

Then connect the canvas walls to the hooks on the inside of the door frame.

Step 5: Add the roof. Unfold the roof on one side and from the inside of the yurt (if by yourself) pull the roof up evenly. When you can no longer reach the roof canvas use a roof pole to evenly push the canvas over the top. Be very careful to only move the canvas in small increments so as not to punch a hole in the roof.

Center the roof hole and the crown and then add the ropes. Note I don't have the rope yet so its not shown.

Some things to remember when putting up the yurt.
1. Remember to unlock the door before the roof goes on.
2. Three of the roof poles over the door are not connected to the cable and lay across the top. At some point these should be notched to fit over the door frame.
3. Level areas are better but it looks like some slope is ok.
